Apple subjects Foxconn, partners to labor scrutiny
Mon, 13 Feb 2012 21:20:12 +0100 SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc said on Monday that a U.S. non-profit labor group has begun an "unprecedented" inspection of working conditions at its main contract manufacturers, including Foxconn's plants in southern China, as the maker of the IPhone continues to grapple with persistent image problems there. "The inspections now underway are unprecedented in the electronics industry, both in scale and scope," Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said in a statement. Following protests, Apple requests Foxconn factory inspections
Mon, 13 Feb 2012 18:50:13 +0100 Apple announced today that the Fair Labor Association (FLA) has begun to investigate a number of Chinese factories where many of Apple’s popular devices are assembled. The “special voluntary audits,” initiated at Apple’s request, will include close examination of working conditions at Foxconn factories in Shenzhen and Chengdu, China, the company said. Audits of Apple’s supply chain factories follow protests against the iPhone- and iPad-maker, which took place at Apple Stores, in cities around the world, late last week. (Source: Digital Trends)
